Our 36 inch by 96 inch Electrically Heated Pit Furnace features a 36 inch Diameter by 96 inch depth heated area with a maximum operating temperature of 1800 Degrees Fahrenheit. A Ribbon heating element total of six (6) units divided into two (2) units per phase using a Delta tap ensures even heating. This Pit Furnace has a watt density of 8.75 watts per square inch giving long life and optional Silicon Control Rectifier controls will also conserve power consumption.

With a pit furnace shell constructed of 3/l6? thick hot rolled steel, there is a removal retort to facilitate load and unloading. This retort is constructed of l/4 inch thick RA330 nickel alloy and is the sand seal type, which retains the protective atmosphere and provides all safety precautions. The retort cover also incorporates a re-circulating fan to ensure even temperature control.

On this Electrically Heated Pit Furnace, there are two Flo meters supplied with nitrogen and hydrogen. With two(2) Honeywell UDC 3000 Micro- processor Controls calibrated for Type (K) Thermocouples. These instruments offer State-of-the-Art Micro Computer Design, 4 digit seven sequent digital display, selectable display of process temperature, set point temperature of control adjustment L.E.D. Deviation indicator, field selectable display in degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius. Adjustable proportion band and cycle rate for precise temperature control.

To prevent over temperature damage of the pit furnace, one Honeywell UDC 3000 series automatic lockout with manual reset and alarm is provided. This instrument is F.M. and I.R.I. approved and will interrupt power to the furnace should ?run-away? temperatures arise. It has its own Type K thermocouple for additional safety and continuous ?checking? of control instrumentation. A strip chart recorder Honeywell Type is provided in the zone for (Optional) continuously monitoring of furnace performance and providing a permanent record of that performance.

Our Pit Furnace has a free standing, water cooled, forced air cooling tower with separate turbine type (Optional) blower will be provided to allow for fast cooling of your work loads.

All S.M. Engineering Pit Furnaces are designed to conform to known existing safety standards required by OSHA and Factory Mutual or Industrial Risk Insurers Insurance Companies for this type of equipment. However, if additional safety features or devices are required to obtain approval of other federal, state or local agencies, such additional items will be supplied at an appropriate additional charge.

As with all our Pit Furnaces, S. M. Engineering Co., Inc. will provide start up and instruct proper operations of the furnace. As per your request we will do this in writing, in person, or if you wish to send your representative to S.M.'s factory, we will also instruct proper start up and shut down installation to the personnel in charge.
